THE BEST CHRISTMAS PRESENT EVER!!!

A young boy sat alone beside a dying fire. He had nothing – no family, no more warmth, no tree and certainly no presents. He heard a gentle knock at the door and ran to answer it, to see who had come.

A stranger stood on the threshold. His smile and friendly eyes warmed the boy’s heart. Eagerly he invited the man inside and pointed to an old worn armchair.

‘Thank you for inviting me in’, said the stranger. He bent down and opened up the bag he had been carrying. Within moments he had pulled out firewood and matches and soon had a blazing fire alight in the hearth.

The young boy leant forward in amazement as he watched one incredible thing after another appear out of the bag! A small fir tree emerged, covered in sparkling snowflakes. The smell of roasted turkey, mince pies and wonderful spices filled the air around them.

He sat back in his chair and surveyed the room – now transformed and suddenly so welcoming. How glorious the food tasted, as the two newly formed friends sat together feasting and talking, laughing and sharing.

Never before in his life had the boy felt such intense joy and love in the deepest part of him.

As the church clock struck midnight, the fear of all this coming to a sudden end came into his thoughts. The man, sensing the boy’s concern, knelt down on the rug by his feet. ‘Please don’t go’, implored the youngster.

His new friend smiled. ‘You invited me in – so I am here to stay!’

The boy squeezed his large hand, closed his eyes and let himself imagine for the first time in his life - that good things lay ahead – very good things indeed!

This story could well be true of any of us. A life filled with little hope transformed as the Light Of The World is invited into our hearts for ever. We only have to ask Him in!

May you have the most blessed Christmas ever!
