Government
On the first day of a new Government as I write this article, one wonders just how a coalition will eventually work out. Over the months I have been asked several times how I was going to vote, but I still have that 'old fashioned' view that such information is my business! However it would seem very few people have such a 'keep it close to your chest' view today, but I will say I did feel that it was time for a change. Change seemed to be in the air (draw your own conclusions from that!)
Jesus was once asked who people of his day should pay allegiance to (Mt 22 v 21), his answer is revealing, "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's and to God the things that are God's". This question was asked in an attempt to 'catch Jesus out', but his answer actually endorsed the need for both an earthly Government and a heavenly one which already existed and was to come. Some of these thoughts are contained later in the book of Romans, Chapter 13 v 1-7
The Roman occupation of Palestine allowed for local 'small-time' religious government, a sort of 'pseudo coalition' that was manipulative and could lead to extreme measures, even the death of an innocent man, Jesus. Let's hope that this coalition won't bring in the same!
Ultimately the rule and Government of God will come (Revelation 11 v 15). The bible does not make it fully clear when this will take place; it only gives a few clues. We do know, however, that His government will be world wide; it will be impartial, without injustice, and will bring peace to a troubled world. It will also not be for a fixed term but without end.
Sounds amazing when we consider the world today!
